Training for CowaLUNGa

Need some help getting into cycling shape? Or, do you know someone who wants to start cycling and needs help? We have training opportunities available for you! This year, we are working with several groups to provide rides of various skill levels for CowaLUNGa Riders and those interested in joining our event.

June 29th (Sunday)
Team CowaLUNGa Training Ride – Long Grove Algonquin & BBQ
Team Cowalunga member Laura Mazzenga will be your host on this ride, a Howard Levy route. The ride is approximately 40 miles and will start at 9:30 AM sharp. Though under 50 miles, this ride is fun and has a few hills. It's a good introduction ride for CowaLUNGa. Bring lunch money and come prepared to get some ice cream, chocolate or cider after the ride. We will meet at the Stemple Municipal Parking Lot, West of Old McHenry Road in Long Grove. (Park near the northwest corner of the lot.) July 12th (Saturday)
CowaLUNGa Training Ride

This ride will be led by CowaLUNGa's very own route director Howard Levy and is our most popular training ride. The 50 mile ride will start at 8:30am in Richmond, IL. The route will stop in Lyons, WI for a rest stop, down to Lake Geneva for lunch, over to Hebron, WI for an ice cream break, and then back to Richmond. There's lot's of rolling hills, nice roads, great food, and beautiful scenery. If this ride doesn't get you excited for CowaLUNGa, nothing will!

Midtown Athletic Club "Group Ride" Classes:
Saturday in July - date to be announced

Brad Franz will lead the following "Group Ride" classes for CowaLUNGa Riders as well as those interested in riding. This 50 minutes indoor cycling class provides simulated hill climbs, sprints, and energetic rides all to motivating music. Brad is a certified Spinning and RPM instructor. All rides start at 1:00 PM at the Midtown Athletic Club in Palatine (1760 N. Hicks Rd.) For more information about these rides please contact Brad at (847) 991-4646.

Chicago Cycling Club Rides:
The CCC is a social club dedicated to promoting safe group cycling while highlighting the city of Chicago as a viable place to tour. June 28, 2008 (Saturday)
Touring Ride: The Road to Hegewisch, Hammond and Beyond Part 5
We'll start at 8:30 AM at the 31st Beach House and head to the most remote corner of Chicago, Hegewisch, founded as a separate town in the 1880s. We'll head down the lakefront via South Shore Drive, Ewing and the Burnham Greenway. We'll blow through downtown Hegewisch and continue on to Hammond - which isn't that far. We'll stop for a snack and then navigate through Hammond on the Erie Lackawanna Bike Trail. Once we are back into Illinois, we'll only hit one stop light getting back to 31st Street!
